2016 Gaonchart Kpop Awards Roundup (OSEN)

The fifth Gaonchart Kpop Awards were held on Wednesday in Seoul, with top celebrities in attendance.

Korea’s hit K-pop groups, EXO and Super Junior, received the grand prize which was the best album of the year award. EXO’s official album “EXODUS,” “Love Me Right,” and their winter special album “Sing for You,” were highly successful, leading them to this win.

Best song of the year awards were given to various artists for each month of the year.

Big Bang received awards for the months May to August, as they were recognized for their hit songs including “Loser” and “Bang Bang Bang.” Other winners included rapper Mad Clown for the month of January, Naul for the month of February, MC Mong for the month of March, Miss A for the month of April, iKON for the month of September, Zico for the month of November, and Psy for the month of December.

Girl group GFriend and YG’s iKON won Rookie of the Year awards. VIXX and Red Velvet were awarded for their hot performances while B.A.P and Baek Ah-yeon received hot trend awards.

BTS was presented with the World Hallyu Star Award for their exploding number of foreign fans and influence abroad. The World Rookie Award was presented to Seventeen and AOA who have been growing popular overseas.
